Custom Orthotics
Orthotics look very much like insoles but there are in fact medical devices, a bit like prescription glasses, that help to improve the mechanics of tissues and joints in your feet.
Custom Orthotics can help to:
- Correct imbalance in the unique movement patterns of your feet
- Reduce pain in the feet and other areas of stress and strain in the body.

What Are Orthotics Used For?

Foot Pain
- Plantar Fasciitis
- Heel Pain
- Metatarsalgia
- Pain in the Ball of The Foot
- Fallen arches
- Heel Spurs
- Walking / gait problems

Ankle Pain
Orthotics can be used to address injuries in the ankle joint and tissues around it such as:
- Achilles tendonitis
- Ankle hypermobility
- Ligament strains

Back and Knee Pain
Orthotics help to correct imbalances in the movement patterns of the feet.
Correction of these imbalances can help to improve the function of other areas in the body, particularly the knee joints and the low back.

Arthritis
The improvement in foot movement and the cushioning and support that orthotics provide can help to offload other joints.
This can make a big difference if you are struggling with knee or hip arthritis, making walking easier and less painful.
The Orthotic Therapy Program
We have helped 1000's of patients just like you with our 3 Step Orthotic Therapy Program.
Step 1 : Examination and Gait Assessment
During the comprehensive gait assessment, your practitioner will perform an examination of your feet and ankles and the way you walk.
This allows for an overview of the alignment, movement and muscle function of the lower limbs, taking into account your specific circumstances and history.

Step 2 -Treatment Plan
If appropriate in your case, our experienced team will advise whether orthotics are a good choice for you and if so what type of orthotics. Some orthotics are made specifically to improve foot function during sports performance and some are made to reduce pain in the foot and ankle and some are made to reduce pain in the knees, hips and lower back.
A treatment will be tailored to your specific circumstances will be made that may include hands on treatment, shockwave therapy and exercise prescription, to get you to best possible results.
Step 3: Diagnosis and Casting
If our experienced and knowledgable team recommends a custom orthotic based on your diagnosis, they will send the cast of each foot to a lab, where a skilled team of technicians will manufacture a pair of orthotics to meet your unique needs.
The orthotics come in a range of styles and sizes from thicker sports orthotics to “standard” sizes through to lighter weight styles for women’s dress shoes.
Our highly trained team will also guide you through how to start using your orthotics and suitable injury rehabilitation program to do alongside to help your recovery. This may include some hands on treatment or simply be some rehab exercises to do at home.

Why Choose Us?
I am Peter Gauntlett, a podiatrist and the owner of South London Foot Clinic.
Since setting up my clinic, I’ve heard countless stories from patients who’ve been given multiple orthotics — often unnecessarily. One patient even arrived with twelve pairs from various providers, despite never needing orthotics in the first place.
The truth is, most people don’t realise:
- Pronation (or flat feet) is perfectly normal and usually doesn’t require orthotics at all.
- Orthotics aren’t for life — in our clinic, they typically last between 18 and 36 months.
- You don’t have to wear them all day, every day for them to be effective.
- Orthotics are often recommended by those without the proper training or clinical understanding of when they’re actually needed.
I firmly believe no one should be given orthotics unless they genuinely need them.
At South London Foot Clinic, it’s my mission to provide honest, evidence-based advice — and to help you make informed decisions about your foot health.
Lastest Treatment Technology - Shockwave Therapy
At our clinic, we are constantly investing in the latest treatment technologies to get the best possible outcomes for our patients.
Shockwave Therapy is an innovative and effective treatment for tendinopathies and soft tissue injuries such as:
- Plantar Fasciitis
- Achilles tendonitis
- Knee Bursitis
- Retro-calcaneal bursitis
